The political problems mentioned on the last slide cause a lot of the current economic problems. 70% of Madagascar's population lives below the poverty line. The Madagascar GDP per capita is $1,000! This means that on average, a Madagascar person lives on $1,000 per year. Because of the constant disputes over leaders, Madagascar has not been able to do anything. Another problem related to economy is the fact that Madagascar only exports stuff that is good that does not fill you up such as coffee beans or chocolate. If you take a look at a place like Wisconsin or Minnesota, they are able to export wheat and corn, or even potatoes. These foods fill you up so they are at a higher demand. The cycle of poverty is what causes all of this. If a person is born into poverty, it will be very difficult for that person to escape it, especially when they don't have as many food shelfs or assets in a place such as America or Europe. So continues the economic crisis in Madagascar.
